Obon festival in Japan

This festival is one of the important Japanese Buddhist traditions. It has been turned into national tradition as most of Japanese follows two religions; one is Buddhism and another is Shintoism together. Japanese daily life traditions generally Shinto based, but after death that is spiritual traditions are Buddhism based.

They believe, during Obon ancestors’ spirits come down in the earth to meet with their decedents. Therefore, people generally go back to their ancestral places and clean the grave, house and alter. It generally celebrates in middle of August (14-16 August). Three daylong celebrations has been practicing since over 500 years. As most of people return in their ancestral home, Obon season become peak travel season in summer. Along with pray and fair, faith based traditional dance, music etc has been organized in this time.
